After helping the Georgia State baseball
team to a four-game sweep of Jackson
State on the season's opening weekend,
junior shortstop
Chase Childers was named Colonial
Athletic Association Player of the Week
as announced by the conference office
today. |

|
A native of Kennesaw, Ga.,
Childers hit .636 during
State’s four-game series
against Jackson State last
weekend. He collected seven
hits with two doubles and
the game-winning home run in
the first game of Saturday’s
doubleheader. The graduate
of North Cobb Christian High
School and STaF Athletics
alumni also scored seven
runs and stole two bases.
Childers finished the
weekend with a 1.091
slugging percentage and a
.714 on-base percentage,
helping the Panthers off to
their best start in school
history. |

“Chase has
been working hard this season, and he’s swinging
the bat very well,” said head coach
Greg Frady. “We have invested two years in
him as our starting shortstop, and we are
starting to reap the rewards and benefits of
that. I am very happy for him and proud of his
accomplishment.”
Childers joins Justin Newman, who received the
accolade on April 10, 2006, as only the second
Panther to earn CAA Player of the Week honors
since Georgia State started joined the CAA on
July 1, 2005.
